Faculty Position in Experimental AMO Physics
The Physics Department, the James Franck Institute, and the Enrico Fermi Institute at the University of Chicago invite applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment in the general area of experimental atomic, molecular, and optical physics (AMO). We encourage applications from candidates with an outstanding record of research in areas such as ultracold atoms and molecules, precision measurements, quantum optics, quantum information, as well as ultrafast laser physics. The successful candidate must have a doctoral degree in physics or related fields, and is expected to establish an independent research program while effectively contributing to the Department’s undergraduate and graduate teaching programs. The appointment is expected to be at the Assistant Professor level. Appointment at the level of Associate Professor or Full Professor is possible for exceptionally well-qualified candidates.
Applicants must apply online at The University of Chicago academic jobs website http://tinyurl.com/bql2kck and upload a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a brief research statement. The cover letter should be addressed to: AMO Search Committee, Physics Department, The University of Chicago. In addition, three reference letters will be required. Reference letter submission information will be provided during the application process. Questions regarding the application process should be sent to Ms. Pat Plitt at pplitt@uchicago.edu.
To ensure full consideration, applications and recommendation letters should be received no later than February 15, 2012. The University of Chicago is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer.
Faculty Position in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
The Department of Physics and the James Franck Institute at the University of Chicago invite applications for a tenure-‐track faculty position in all areas of condensed matter theory (CMT). We encourage applications from candidates with an outstanding record of research in hard or soft CMT. The successful candidate must have a doctoral degree in physics or related fields, and is expected to establish an independent research program while effectively contributing to the Department’s undergraduate and graduate teaching programs. The appointment is expected to be at the Assistant Professor level; however, an Associate or Full Professor appointment is possible for exceptionally well-‐qualified candidates. Applicants must apply online at The University of Chicago academic jobs website http://tinyurl.com/c2mof32 and upload a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a brief research statement. Applicants must also arrange for three recommendation letters to be sent to: CMT Search Committee, c/o Ms. Rosemary Garrison, The University of Chicago, The James Franck Institute, GCIS E145, 929 E. 57th St., Chicago, IL 60637 or via email to rg-garrison@uchicago.edu. Review of completed applications will begin on February 15, 2012. To ensure full consideration, applications and recommendation letters should be received no later than that date. The University of Chicago is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
Faculty Positions in Geometry and Topology in Physics
The Physics Department, the James Franck Institute (JFI), and the Enrico Fermi Institute (EFI) at the University of Chicago invite applications for faculty positions at the tenured rank of Professor in an area broadly defined as Geometry and Topology in Physics and encompassing areas of condensed matter physics emphasizing topological aspects of quantum physics in new materials and quantum computation as well as aspects of general relativity and string theory, particularly gauge/gravity dualities and their applications. It is our hope that vibrant activity in this area will serve as a focal point of activities in both JFI and EFI, forming an intellectual bridge between the Institutes. We encourage applications from candidates with an outstanding record of research in the above areas.
Candidates must have a doctoral degree in physics or related fields and be several years beyond the Ph.D. Candidates are expected to have established an outstanding independent research program and will be expected to contribute to the Department's undergraduate and graduate teaching programs.
Applicants must apply online at The University of Chicago academic jobs website at http://tinyurl.com/d3jqa8y and upload a curriculum vitae with a list of publications.
Review of completed applications will start January 10, 2012, and will continue until the positions are filled. The University of Chicago is an Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer.
Faculty Position in Experimental Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology
The Departments of Physics and of Astronomy & Astrophysics and the Enrico Fermi Institute at the University of Chicago invite applications for a faculty position in experimental particle astrophysics and cosmology, which includes but is not limited to the areas of the cosmic microwave background, dark-matter detection, ultra-high energy cosmic rays, neutrino astrophysics, and gamma-ray astronomy. The appointment is intended to start in the Fall of 2012. We encourage applications from candidates with an outstanding record of research in the above areas. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in physics or a related field prior to appointment and are expected to establish an independent research program while effectively contributing to the undergraduate and graduate teaching programs of one or both Departments. Applicants must apply through the University’s Academic Jobs website and upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae with a list of publications, and a brief research statement. Review of completed applications will start in the fall of 2011 and will continue until the position is filled.
