Cosmic Rays and Cosmic Neutrinos in the 21st Century

Particle acceleration is ubiquitous in the Universe, resulting in significant near-power-law fluxes of protons, nuclei, electrons, and neutrinos. I will review what we know about the spectrum, composition, and origin of the cosmic rays, the flux and origin of cosmic neutrinos, and the highest energy cosmic rays and neutrinos.
Work in this area has been advanced by the adoption of new measurement techniques and by large scale experiments in remote areas. I will also touch on the human aspects of this adventure, including many times when the University of Chicago has played a key role.
