Background
I am a Professor at the Physics Department, the Enrico Fermi Institute, the Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics and the Leinweber Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of Chicago. I did my undergraduate studies at the Instituto Balseiro in Bariloche, Argentina and my Ph.D. at the University of Hamburg, where I graduated in 1989. I held postdoctoral positions at Purdue University, the Max Planck Institute and at CERN, where I was named a staff member in 1996. In the year 2000 I moved to the Chicago area, and since 2005 I hold a joint position between Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Chicago. I am a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). In 2014 I received the Humboldt Research Prize. Since 2024, I hold also a Distinguished Visiting Research Chair position at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. I work on theoretical high energy physics, with emphasis on the connection between theory and experiment. I am particularly interested in Higgs and beyond the Standard Model physics, collider physics, and the interface between particle physics and cosmology, including Dark Matter, Dark Energy and Electroweak Baryogenesis. Most recently, I became interested in the application of Quantum Information concepts to particle physics.
