Acoustic Levitation

March 23, 2019
Professors Jaeger, Vitelli, and collaborators used acoustic levitation to study inter-particle dynamics

Department of Physics graduate student Melody Lim and former Postdoctoral researcher Anton Souslov led a study with Professors Jaeger and Vitelli that used sound waves to levitate particles. Such studies can provide macroscopic-scale insight into processes than are normally invisible to the naked eye. You can read more about their work including a video of some of their results in this UChicago News article. Their technical paper has been published in the journal Nature Physics.
