Background

Daniel Holzreceived his AB in physics fromPrincetonUniversity andhis PhD at the University of Chicago. He held postdoctoral fellowshipsat the Albert Einstein Institute (Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics) in Potsdam, Germany, the KavliInstitute for Theoretical Physics in Santa Barbara, and the Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics in Chicago. He was a Richard FeynmanFellow atthe Los Alamos National Laboratory beforereturning to the University of Chicago as a faculty memberin 2011.

Research

DanielHolzworks in the field ofgravitational waveastrophysics and cosmology. He studies how gravitational-wave detections of colliding black holes and neutron stars can helpus better understand the physics and history ofour Universe. He is amember of the LIGO collaboration, and contributed tothe discovery of GW1501914 and GW170817. He has worked extensively ondeveloping andutilizing gravitational-wave standard sirens to constrain cosmology.
