2017 Graduate Student Open House
Dear Prospective University of Chicago Physics Graduate Student:
The University of Chicago Physics Department is excited to welcome you to the 2017 Prospective Graduate Student Open House on Friday, March 3rd, 2017! The schedule of events for the Open House is described below, including the special reception and brunch for those students who arrive on Thursday afternoon and depart on Saturday mid-day.
The primary purpose of the Open House is for you to interact with and get to know the faculty, current graduate students, and postdoctoral and research staff with whom you would work at UChicago.
Current Open House Schedule
Thursday, March 2nd:
— 4 - 6 pm: Department Colloquium and Reception (KPTC)
— 7 - 9 pm: Prospective Graduate Student Reception at the home of Profs. Young-Kee Kim and Sidney Nagel
Friday, March 3rd:
— 8:30 - 9:30 am: Breakfast and Welcome from the Physics Department Chair Prof. Young-Kee Kim (Quad Club)
— 9:45 am - 12:30 pm: Research Overviews & one-on-one faculty meetings
— 12:30 - 2:00 pm: Lunch with current graduate students (GCIS Atrium)
— 2:00 - 4:30 pm: One-on-one faculty meetings
— 4:30 - 6:00 pm: Reception and poster session with students, postdocs and faculty (KPTC)
— 7:00 - 9:00 pm: Dinner for prospective graduate students and invited faculty at Eataly downtown
Saturday, March 4th:
— 10:00 am - 12:00 pm: Women in Physics Brunch hosted by Women Graduate Students
RSVP Information
If you plan to visit the Physics Open House, please be sure to RSVP by February 15th so that we can arrange for your lodging. Access the RSVP form from your admissions letter in the online application system. If you have any dietary restrictions or require special accommodations, please let us know at that time so we can make your stay in Chicago as comfortable as possible.

Accommodations
If you visit on our Open House day, (Friday, March 3rd), we will reimburse your travel expenses up to $400. In addition, we will provide housing accommodations at the Hyatt Place Chicago South / University Medical Center in Hyde Park for Thursday, March 2nd and Friday, March 3rd. Check in at the hotel is at 3pm. If you wish to stay longer, please make your own arrangements.
