Researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory have announced the first successful demonstration of a new technique that improves particle beams. The team, in collaboration with UChicago, published its findings in a recent edition of Nature.

John Schiffer, professor emeritus of physics at the University of Chicago and former director of the Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory, died June 6. He was 91.

The 2022 recipients of the Arthur L. Kelly Faculty Prize for Exceptional Service in the Physical Sciences Division are Young-Kee Kim and Edward "Rocky" Kolb.

Abigail Vieregg, Associate Professor in the Department of Physics, Astronomy & Astrophysics, and the EFI, has been appointed the David N. Schramm Director of the Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics for a term beginning August 1, 2022 through July 31, 2025. Rocky Kolb will continue as the David N. Schramm Director of KICP through the end of July.

Colin Scheibner, a graduate student of Professor Vincenzo Vitelli, has received a William Rainey Harper Dissertation Fellowship in the PSD for the 2022-2023 academic year.  This award, one of the University of Chicago’s highest honors, is given in recognition of Colin's record of achievement and professional promise.
